Service-Oriented Project Management (SOPM) Podcast Interview

As mentioned, I recently did a webinar on Service-Oriented Project Management (SOPM) for Mindjet, makers of MindManager software. In addition to that, Cornelius Fichtner just interviewed me about SOPM for his latest episode on The Project Management Podcast. It was a fun interview, as Cornelius always has interesting questions. Hope you enjoy it.

Here's the link to the podcast.

The Project Management Podcastâ„¢ - Episode 058: Service Oriented Project Management

PS: I'll be resuming my podcast series again shortly as well. I took a hiatus while I was tied up with speaking engagements and seminars over the last few months. Stay tuned for details.

Jerry, I found your discussion with Cornelius extremely interesting.

As a PR/marcomms practitioner, I was especially intrigued to hear of your interest in integrating marketing approaches into project management.

By the same token, comms/marketing campaigns could greatly benefit from more systematic PM approaches, and I hope to hear your thoughts on this in future podcasts.

The life of a podcast is long! I just listened to the service oriented project management podcast a couple of days ago and liked it very much.

What I especially liked is the common theme of tying back projects to their original purpose. I am doing a lot of government/DoD consulting right now, and I find that in such a large environment it is very difficult for people to have PERSPECTIVE on what they are doing. People "stay in their lane", which in virtually all cases and at all levels is narrow and at least substantially disconnected to overall purpose.

In short, success at execution does not necessarily mean that a prpoject is successful, and it is important that we somehow incorporate strategic components into project management.
