Quality is Job One

Who said that? ... What is the right balance of quality, schedule, and budget on an IT project? It's situational. Just know which one is most important and plan accordingly. ...

... "Quality happens only when careful planning is done, when the entire project team maintains a quality-conscious approach every step of the way, and when problems don't escape from the phase in which they were introduced. " ...

Hi, First time here!

I was interested in the quote you chose, as I disagree with some of the assumptions hidden within it.

* Does quality only occur when careful planning is done.. really? What about agile projects producing quality results?

* Are we talking about quality as a way of behaving, or quality as an outcome?

* If you are quality-conscious doesn't that detract from your focus on the job in hand... actually don't you want your team to be quality-unconscious?

interesting...

Thanks for the post.

Hi Jason ... I was intrigued by the quote and decided to take a snapshot of it. I think the quote is an nice ideal. Usually, it is cheaper to build quality in, at earlier steps in the process.

However, today's approaches to software development with alpha's, beta's, quick cycles ... such as the agile techniques you refer to ... may accept a specific level of quality in order to achieve speed to market.

That's why I think it's situational.

Good luck with your business and blog. Frank
