Defining Success: A Video Worth Watching

Someone had sent me this fascinating short video, describing a series of animals at Animal School, and the trials they have trying to shine in a system that won't let them. As a parent of a six-year old daughter, and as one who consults and writes on leadership, I found the insights in this video both moving and extremely important.

Not only does it highlight what's wrong with the American education system (Don't get me started on "No Child Left Behind") , it offers valuable hints at better ways to lead people.

In any context, it also makes us think twice about how we define success.

Do you see any of these animals in yourself? In your people? In your children?

That's been a round for a while and your right about our educational system. Follow up with some books from John Holt, it will change the way you think about formal education. After reading them, and others, I don't see how someone could send their kid through the public education system.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to look up John Holt's books. I know Dennis Littky's books have also sold me on the ineffectiveness of our public education system. Don't get me started. I could have a whole blog site just on that.
